NJ Residents Prepare for Bitter Cold and Snowy Conditions Ahead
According to the most recent forecast, this week will begin with dangerously low temperatures due to a blast of Arctic air, followed by two chances of snow later in the week.
The
National Weather Service reports that as of Monday morning, a cold front with Arctic air behind it had passed across New Jersey. As a result, peak temperatures will fall between the mid-20s and mid-30s. It will be quite chilly, with wind chills in the 10s and 20s throughout the day.
Paul Pastelok, Lead Long-Range Meteorologist at
AccuWeather, stated that "the polar vortex has been in a weakened and extended position since late November." "We are witnessing the outcome as Arctic air moves southward across the central and eastern United States in recent days and may continue to do so in waves for the next couple of weeks or so."
Forecasters predict that Tuesday will be somewhat milder than Monday, but it will still be chilly.
On Wednesday, the temperature will drop back to the low to mid-40s. According to
National Weather Service forecasters, there will be snow in North Jersey, a wintry mix in Central Jersey, and all rain in South Jersey.
According to experts, Thursday will see a return to below-average temperatures and possibly some flurries, but it will be generally dry.
The National Weather Service reports that a clipper-like system might travel through that evening when Arctic air returns on Friday. Different models predict different outcomes, but any precipitation that falls is probably going to be snow. For the weekend, there will be more arctic air. Check the latest
