Multi-Vehicle Crash on Route 70 Leads to Delays and Road Closures
Manchester Police Department reported that one driver was airlifted to a regional trauma center and another was sent to a nearby hospital following a three-vehicle crash on Route 70 on Tuesday afternoon.
According to Capt. Albert Vega, a department spokesman, officers arrived at the state highway's intersection with Route 571 (Ridgeway Road) at approximately 3:29 p.m. after hearing reports of a significant crash.
According to Manchester Capt. Albert Vega,
Gissela Knoll, 37, of Toms River, was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune with injuries that were not thought to be life-threatening. According to him, Knoll was classed as stable on Wednesday.
According to Vega, Beachwood resident
Cheyanne Nastasi, 25, was transported to Community Medical Center in Toms River for medical attention.
Felix Carter, 36, of Jackson, the third driver, stated he was uninjured.
The collision near the intersection of Route 70 and Route 571 was reported at 3:29 p.m.
According to police, the investigation revealed that Nastasi was driving a white 2017 Nissan Titan west on Route 70 when a black 2023 Mercedes Benz EQE driven east on Route 70 by Knoll entered the junction and struck the rear passenger side of the Nissan.
Nastasi then started to turn left onto Route 571 south.
According to police, the collision threw a car floor jack from the Nissan's bed and struck the undercarriage of Carter's gray 2023 Kia Sportage.
The road was closed for around two hours due to the collision and cleanup.
Traffic on County Route 571 and Commonwealth Blvd. experienced heavy traffic delays while officers were conducting the investigation.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing; however, based on information available at this time, failure to yield the right-of-way while executing a left-hand turn appears to be the primary contributing factor.
The crash is being investigated by Patrolman Anthony DeBlasio and Patrolman Michael O’Hara of the Manchester Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit.
