A wind advisory with potential gusts of up to 50 mph has been issued by the National Weather Service for 16 counties on Monday.
As a warm front moves through the area on Monday morning, temperatures will rise above freezing and any lingering freezing rain will turn to plain rain.
Before Monday morning, there will probably be a short respite in the rain.
On Monday afternoon, a powerful cold front will swiftly follow the warm front, bringing with it another period of rain that could occasionally be moderately intense.
Elevated temperatures Before the cold front passes, Monday will see high winds and temperatures in the upper 40s around the coast.
16 counties are under a wind advisory from 10 a.m. on Monday until 1 p.m. on Tuesday. Wind advisories are only not in effect in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Passaic, and Union counties.
The National Weather Service reported on Sunday night that "strong westerly winds develop Monday with wind gusts up to 50 mph and a wind advisory has been issued." "Power outages and tree damage are possible."
Even at the Jersey Shore, Tuesday will be noticeably colder, with high temperatures barely making it above freezing.
During the day, wind chills in the teens and low 20s are anticipated.
There will be persistent gusty gusts of 20 to 30 mph and partly cloudy skies.
Although it is still well below average for late December, Wednesday offers somewhat milder weather with highs in the mid-30s to close to 40 degrees.
According to the extended prediction, temperatures will remain below average through the rest of the week and into the New Year.
As a weak cold front moves through on Thursday, there may be a chance of snow showers, although minor accumulations are anticipated.
With highs in the low to mid-30s, Friday appears to be dry. Check your local
forecast.
Although prediction confidence is still low for that timeframe, another weather system may affect the area late next weekend, possibly bringing a combination of rain and snow.
