Senior Driver Killed in South Jersey After Hitting Multiple Trees
According to a news release from Township of Hamilton Police, an 83-year-old man lost his life in a single-vehicle collision on Monday after his SUV veered off the road and struck several trees.
At around 11:40 a.m., Leonard Spaeth Jr., a resident of Mays Landing, was traveling west on Harding Highway (US Route 40) when his 2020 Cadillac Escalade veered off the road, according to authorities.
According to authorities, Spaeth struck several trees.
He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to police. Traffic was diverted for about two hours Monday.
The Township of Hamilton Rescue Squad, AtlantiCare Paramedics, Mays Landing and Laureldale Fire Departments, and the Atlantic County Sheriff's Office all provided on-site assistance.
