Authorities reported that a New Jersey mother was charged early on Wednesday with first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of her two sons, ages five and seven, who were discovered in their Somerset County house by their father.

At approximately 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, a father contacted 911 to report that his children were not breathing, leading to the arrest of Priyatharsini Natarajan, 35, of Shell Court in Hillsborough.

According to a statement from Somerset County Prosecutor's Office, "the caller advised that upon arriving home from work he subsequently found his two children unconscious and that his wife did something to them."
The prosecutor claimed that after discovering the two boys inside a bedroom, the cops attempted to save their lives but were unsuccessful.

At the scene, the youngsters were declared deceased.

The children seemed to have been strangled and had been dead for several hours when police arrived, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

However, the children's names and the cause and manner of death were withheld while an autopsy was conducted.
According to court documents, Natarajan was arrested by Hillsborough police officers around 1:15 a.m. and charged with two counts of first-degree murder and third-degree possession of a firearm.

Before a pre-trial detention hearing, she was sent to the Somerset County Jail. Court documents did not include Natarajan's attorney information. The investigation remains on-going and no further information will be available for release at this time.
