Jan. 18, 2025- The Intermediate East boys basketball team is in the midst of a generational season, which is saying a lot considering the program's pedigree. The team is currently undefeated at 10–0, with the division title still up for grabs. Recent games have highlighted the team's talent and chemistry.

The Rockets competed in the St. Peter’s School Tournament, a single-elimination, bracket-style event featuring some of the top programs from Monmouth and Ocean Counties. East opened tournament play by defeating first-round winner Antrim, advancing to face a red-hot Rumson squad. In a competitive matchup, East came out on top, setting up a showdown with Monmouth County powerhouse College Achieve. In a thrilling, back-and-forth shootout, the East boys once again rose to the challenge, earning their spot in the championship game.

In the finals, East turned its attention to division rival Jackson Township. In a clean and hard-fought contest, East secured a narrow 50–47 victory over a very talented Jackson team. Wing player Myles Mitchell led the charge and was named All-Tournament MVP, while smooth-finishing point guard Trey Nichol controlled the pace and delivered timely transition buckets. Nichol was later named First Team All-Tournament.

The championship run was a complete team effort. East guard Matt Gathman anchored the defensive end, frequently drawing the assignment of guarding the opposing team’s top scorer. Coach Conroy could not be prouder of his players, as the title marked the school’s first boys championship in more than 10 years.

With the tourney title secured, the East boys now turn their focus back to the division race, where a strong and battle-tested Jackson Township squad still stands in their path.

Good luck to the Rockets in their quest for a division title!
