Winter Storm Update: Strong Winds and Little Snow Predicted for Jersey Shore

Forecasters predict that a strong coastal storm that is churning in the Atlantic this weekend will track far enough offshore to have relatively modest effects on New Jersey.

According to NWS, the most of the effects in the Garden State will be limited to the Jersey Shore, where there may be some light snowfall, strong wind gusts, and some coastal flooding.

According to the National Weather Service, wind gusts in the Shore region are predicted to occasionally reach 40 to 50 mph from early Sunday morning through Sunday evening. Interior portions of New Jersey are predicted to see gusts ranging from 25 mph to 35 mph.

According to the most recent forecast, coastal Atlantic County and far southern Cape May County will see 1 to 2 inches of snow, while Monmouth, Ocean, eastern Burlington, and the majority of Atlantic and Cape May counties will only see traces to 1 inch.
The National Weather Service predicts persistent winds of 30 to 40 mph throughout the state on Sunday, with gusts of up to 50 mph possible.

Tree and cable damage could occur from wind gusts of up to 50 mph.

Because there is still snow and ice on many branches and wires, more severe effects could happen than what often happens at these wind speeds, according to the weather service.
This might result in potential power outages, which will be quite concerning when paired with the ongoing severe cold.

Stay up-to-date with your local forecast.
