On December 23, 2025, around 6:58 PM, Patrolman Nicholas Mezzacappa with the Freehold Township Police Department was dispatched to JCPenney at 3710 US Highway 9 on a report of a theft. He walked inside and made contact with store employees, who claimed that a woman attempted to exit the store with $120 worth of stolen clothing.
Video footage confirmed that she attempted to steal. The suspect was identified as Lauren Beck. Store employees told him that this was not her first time stealing from JCPenney, since they had her on camera stealing $64 and $59 worth of items on 2 separate occasions.
Since they decided to press charges against her, Lauren was placed under arrest for shoplifting. Lauren was transported to the Freehold Township Police Department for further processing. At the station, Patrolman Mezzacappa noticed that she had multiple prior arrests for shoplifting.
After she was photographed and fingerprinted, Lauren was eventually released with a summons pending her court appearance in the Freehold Township Municipal Court on January 8, 2026. Lauren was charged with shoplifting (2C:20-11B(2).
As of January 30, 2026, court records indicate that Lauren failed to appear in court for this charge.
