Nor’easter Expected to Bring Significant Snowfall to NJ
A possible "major" winter storm that might cover the Garden State in snow is being warned about by forecasters. However, both AccuWeather and the National Weather Service emphasize that it is far too early to predict whether our area will have rain, snow, mixed precipitation, or nothing at all.
There is definitely some indication of a storm of some kind for the second half of the weekend, according to an update from
National Weather Service.
Should a storm form, it would hit on Sunday.
Forecasters with the
National Weather Service stated that the storm "has the highest potential to be impactful across our region with the potential for an accumulating widespread snowfall."
According to the forecast, several conditions must be met for there to be a substantial amount of snowfall.
According to AccuWeather Meteorologist Brandon Buckingham, "a lot of pieces to the puzzle would have to come together at the proper time for a large storm to form and bring heavy snow late this weekend to early next week."
The absence of cold air before to the storm is a key factor, according to
AccuWeather and the National Weather Service.
The storm's path is another crucial element.
According to AccuWeather, "if the storm moves far inland from the coast, it will bring in too much warm air for snow in the I-95 zone and could even make it too warm for an all-out snowstorm from north and west of I-95 to the Appalachians." However, it could bring snow to the northeast if it tracks off the coast and draws in enough cold air.
Forecasters cautioned that it is too early to make any firm predictions and that more information will become available as Sunday draws near. Check the upcoming
forecast.
