Snow Chances Increase as Weekend Storm Approaches in NJ
Forecasters predict that a coastal winter storm that will begin on Sunday would likely bring up to 6 inches of snow to sections of New Jersey, increasing the likelihood of widespread snowfall.
The
National Weather Service stated early on Friday that "the initial storm total snowfall projection is generally a broad 2-6 inches across most of the country." "These figures are still quite speculative and will probably vary in subsequent revisions."
Expectations for snowfall could vary greatly depending on the storm's path and timing.
Higher snowfall totals would be expected on a route nearer the coast, whilst light wintry precipitation would probably occur on a track farther southeast.
According to the weather service, "the likelihood of at least light snow accumulations of 2 inches or more has increased to roughly 60-80%."
The likelihood of six inches or more of snow falls between twenty-five and forty-five percent.
Southern New Jersey is expected to receive 3 to 6 inches, while the remainder of the state will receive 1 to 3 inches, according to
AccuWeather's forecast map.
It is anticipated that snowfall will start on Sunday morning, intensify throughout Sunday afternoon and Sunday evening, and then wind down on Monday into Monday evening.
There is also a chance of coastal flooding along the Jersey Shore and gusty winds. Stay up-to-state with the forecast by visiting
