Jersey Shore May Receive 12+ Inches of Snow

New York City and New Jersey may experience blizzard-like conditions on Sunday. According to some models, the New York City region may receive up to 12 inches of snow on Sunday night and Monday morning, according to chief meteorologist Nick Gregory of FOX 5 NY.

According to the majority of models, Southern and Central New Jersey, including parts of the Jersey Shore, may see the highest snowfall totals, with greater uncertainty further north.

According to meteorologist Nick Gregory, some models indicate that New York City/New Jersey may receive up to 12 inches of snow between Sunday night and Monday morning.

Gregory contrasted a number of prediction models:

A longer-lasting storm with the potential for 12 to 16 inches of snow in some areas of the region is suggested by the GFS model, which presents a more aggressive scenario.

Although the heaviest bands remain more confined and have less of an impact northward into the Hudson Valley and portions of northern New Jersey, the NAM (North American Model) also predicts snow on Sunday night and Monday.

The Baron model and other recommendations place the storm further offshore, which would drastically lower the amount of snowfall in the New York City region.

According to the majority of models, southern and central New Jersey, including parts of the Jersey Shore, may see the highest snowfall totals, with greater uncertainty further north.

Winter Storm Watches have already been announced for New York City, Long Island, parts of New Jersey, including the Jersey Shore, Connecticut and Massachusetts, including Cape Cod.

This storm has been named Winter Storm Hernando by The Weather Channel.

According to News12NJ, Prior to the storm, there will likely be scattered snowfall around the tri-state on Saturday night and Sunday early. By Sunday morning, there may be a little amount of snow accumulation.

New Jersey will have steadier snowfall on Sunday afternoon from the south, and the remainder of the tri-state will see it through Sunday night and Monday morning. From Sunday night through Monday morning, there will probably be the highest chance of snowfall. Monday morning will see the end of the snow showers.

The duration of the snow will be significantly reduced if the storm takes a path that is farther out to sea.
