Mild Weather on Saturday with Snow Possible in Parts of NJ on Sunday
This weekend in New Jersey will be a winter roller coaster, with sunny sky and moderate temperatures on Saturday and chilly temperatures and light snow showers in some areas of the state on Sunday.
Most of the state will see moderate temperatures on Saturday, with highs well into the 50s, which will aid in melting most of the lingering snow.
The
National Weather Service predicts that a wave of low pressure will move eastward to the north on Sunday morning after a cold front arrives in our area on Saturday night and stalls.
Northern New Jersey may experience sporadic rain and snow showers due to this system, especially in the northwest region of the state, where there is a high probability of modest snow accumulations of up to an inch.
According to experts, Sunday will see a temporary return of winter conditions behind the storm, with temperatures below average.
In most of New Jersey, Sunday's highs will be around 10 degrees lower than Saturday's, with some regions seeing reductions of up to 15 degrees.
Before temperatures fall into the upper teens on Sunday night and into Monday morning, afternoon highs are predicted to reach the low 40s.
As arctic high pressure builds from Canada over the Northeast, forecasters predict that a chilly air mass will move into the area Monday and Tuesday.
During this time, two distinct low pressure systems are expected to travel over or near New Jersey.
With weak low pressure moving eastward from the Tennessee Valley along a blocked frontal boundary, the first system is expected to arrive Monday through Monday night.
With only a remote probability of light snow in New Jersey later Monday, the guidance indicates that this system will continue to be suppressed to the south while tracking close to the Chesapeake region.
According to the weather service, the Monday system's precipitation probabilities have dropped from 30% to 15%, and accumulation trends are further declining.
There may be significant uncertainty due to timing discrepancies in prediction models for a second disturbance that will affect the area Tuesday through Wednesday.
According to the
weather service, temperatures will progressively rise on Tuesday as a southerly flow pattern forms, possibly bringing a mix of rain and snow at first before turning into plain rain by Tuesday night.
The likelihood of precipitation within this time frame has risen to between 60% and 80%. It is anticipated that a substantial warm-up will start late next week and continue into the following weekend. Stay up-to-date with the
local forecast.
