A Mother’s Fight: Erin’s Battle with Liver Failure and Recovery

Hope and Help for Erin’s Family

Hi, my name is Erin, and this is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to write. I am a mother of three beautiful children, and right now our family is struggling just to make it through each day. During my pregnancy and after giving birth, I experienced serious medical complications that forced me to stop working so I could recover and care for my newborn. I suffered liver failure and developed cholestasis, which left me severely anemic and fighting just to regain my health.

Shortly after my first daughter was born, I experienced another devastating loss….I lost her father, who was our family’s primary provider. Overnight, our stability disappeared, and since then I have been doing everything I can to hold our family together through overwhelming hardship. I truly believed maternity benefits would help us stay afloat during this difficult time, but our application was denied due to reduced work hours during my pregnancy. Suddenly, the financial support we were counting on was gone. Since then, I have stretched every dollar possible, skipped meals, and put my children’s needs before my own just to maintain some sense of normalcy for them. Despite my best efforts, we have fallen behind. Today, we are facing the terrifying reality of losing our home and struggling to keep our utilities from being shut off.

Then another heartbreaking setback occurred flooding in our apartment complex completely destroyed my car. It rusted beyond repair, leaving us without transportation overnight. Without a vehicle:
• I cannot get my children to appointments or school activities
• I cannot manage daily necessities
• And most devastating of all, I cannot get to work

I work as a Direct Support Professional, caring for adults with disabilities in their homes. It is work I truly love! Helping others live safely, independently, and with dignity. But without reliable transportation, I cannot work… and without work, I cannot provide for my children. I never imagined I would be in a position where I needed to ask for help, but today I am asking, as a mother doing everything she can to protect her children and rebuild stability for our family.

Any donation, no matter how small, will help us:

• Catch up on essential bills • Keep our utilities on
• Provide basic necessities for my children
• Secure reliable transportation so I can return to work

If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing our story. Sometimes a single share reaches the person who can change everything. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for taking the time to read our story and for helping my family find hope again.
