Get Ready for a Cold Snap and Light Snow in New Jersey

Parts of New Jersey may get scattered flurries and a few snow showers on Tuesday night as the very cold temperatures and strong winds persist, with lows in the 20s and wind chills in the teens.

West-northwest winds that reached 30 mph this afternoon will progressively lessen through tonight, according to the National Weather Service, but the chilly air mass will maintain temperatures far below average for mid-March.
The areas north and west of the Interstate 95 corridor have the best possibilities of snow showers, but forecasters warned that a stray snow shower might make an appearance farther south tonight evening.

There would be virtually little accumulation.

Due to the high seas, a small craft advisory is still in place for New Jersey's coastal waters into Wednesday.

Forecasters predicted that Wednesday would be another chilly day with highs barely reaching 40 degrees due to lighter northwest winds. In the middle of March, New Jersey often has highs in the low 50s.

Wednesday night's temperatures will drop into the mid-20s due to unusually cold air, but there won't be any strong winds.

As a warm front sweeps northward across the region on Thursday, highs will be roughly 10 degrees warmer than Wednesday and closer to seasonal norms of 50 degrees, marking the start of a warming trend.

Areas north and west of I-95 may see rain on Thursday night due to a weak cold front, and higher altitudes may see some snow.

While another system moves through with a chance of rain, mostly north and west of I-95, Friday will be a few degrees milder than Thursday, with highs in the 50s for much of the state.

The trend of warming continues into the weekend, with temperatures rising a few degrees on Saturday and probably hitting 60 degrees or more on Sunday in most of the area.
