Smoky Conditions are Being Reported in Parts of Ocean County
Due to controlled fires carried out by the New Jersey Forest Fire Service, smoky conditions are being reported in some areas of southern Monmouth County and northern Ocean County on Wednesday afternoon, according to authorities.
Wells Mills Park in Waretown and Jackson, Manchester, are two of the locations in Ocean County where the controlled fires are taking place.
The
Ocean County Sheriff's Office and Howell authorities reported that the smoke was blowing into Lakewood and Howell.
According to the state forest fire service, prescribed fires are intended to lessen the amount of leaves, branches, and other forest waste that could aid in the spread of a wildfire.
The Forest burn Service lowers risk to New Jersey residents, tourists, and the environment by actively removing fuel sources that increase the risk of forest fires through a controlled burn program, according to the service.
In addition to recycling nutrients into the soil, the controlled fires, which are overseen by forest fire service firemen, also aid in lowering the number of harmful insects and ticks.A larger uncontrolled wildfire may be avoided by letting specialists decide on the fire's strength, timing, and spacing over the landscape, according to officials.
