Severe Thunderstorm Warnings Issued Across New Jersey as Storms Arrive
The National Weather Service has issued warnings in two New Jersey counties due to strong thunderstorms that are moving across the state on Wednesday night.
Strong storm cells were moving toward Cumberland and Salem counties, where severe thunderstorm warnings were issued.
Any part of New Jersey could get isolated thunderstorms and sporadic showers on Wednesday, according to forecasters, although the southern half of the state is more likely to see strong or severe thunderstorms.
According to the weather service, some of the storm cells today could produce
wind gusts of up to 60 mph and hail up to 1 inch in diameter.
In numerous counties, afternoon temperatures reached the upper 70s to low 80s due to warm air flowing in from the southwest, nearly reaching daily record highs in some cities.
However, a cold front approaching from the west will bring colder air and contribute to the thunderstorms and showers.
The cold front may stall, according to forecasters, restricting Thursday's daytime highs to the 40s in northern New Jersey and the 50s in the southern area.
Before rain comes on Saturday night and Easter Sunday, warmer air is predicted to arrive on Friday and Saturday, bringing temperatures back to the 70s. Check the latest
forecast.
