E-Bike Collision Leaves Young Rider Injured in Ocean County
After colliding with a car in Stafford Township on Wednesday night, a young man riding an electric bicycle was transported to a hospital by air, according to police.
The
Stafford Township Police Department reports that the collision occurred near Parker Street and Hillard Boulevard on June 3 at around six o'clock in the evening.
According to police, a preliminary investigation revealed that the young person was riding the e-bike against traffic on Hillard Boulevard's shoulder. Simultaneously, a passenger car was turning right onto Hillard Boulevard after stopping at a stop sign on Parker Street.
According to authorities, the e-bike collided with the passenger side of the car as it entered the road.
After being injured, the young person was transported by medical helicopter to
Jersey Shore University Medical Center for assessment and care. The injuries were not thought to be life-threatening, according to the police.
No accusations have been made. The Traffic Safety Unit of the Stafford Township Police Department is still investigating the collision.
Police used the collision as an opportunity to warn e-bike riders to obey traffic laws and exercise caution when riding. Additionally, parents were urged to go over New Jersey's e-bike regulations with their kids, including the significance of wearing a helmet, when to yield, and safe crossing techniques.
