Tragic Loss: New Jersey Father Charged in Killing 2 Month Old Daughter

Prosecutors said that a man from Warren County has been taken into custody for the murder of his two-month-old daughter.

More than a year after his infant daughter, Sophia Capo, was discovered dead, Phillipsburg resident James A. Capo Jr., 39, is charged with murder, according to authorities.

Police were called to the 700 block of Youngs Road in Lopatcong on April 17, 2025, after a baby was reportedly unconscious.
Sophia was reported to have "fell from a baby chair," according to the prosecution.

The baby was sent to a local hospital for emergency care after suffering severe head injuries. She was eventually airlifted to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia for further treatment.

On April 24, 2025, Sophia passed away in the hospital.

According to the medical examiner's findings, Sophia died from blunt force injuries to her skull, and the manner of death was homicide, according to the prosecution.

After a 14-month-long investigation, Capo has been charged with killing and endangering the welfare of a child.

Details linking Capo to his daughter's death have not yet been made public by the authorities.

He might be imprisoned for the remainder of his life if found guilty.
