Two Charged Following Drug Raid at Brick Township Home

BRICK, NJ — Two people are facing criminal charges after Brick Township Police conducted a drug investigation that led to a search of a local residence and the seizure of large quantities of suspected narcotics, authorities said.

According to the Brick Township Police Department, the department’s Street Crimes Unit conducted an extensive investigation into the alleged distribution of illegal drugs throughout Ocean County. Detectives identified Charles Duffy of Brick as a suspected distributor of heroin and fentanyl.

Police said Duffy was taken into custody without incident. At the same time, members of the department’s Special Emergency Response Team executed a court-authorized search warrant at his residence. An adult woman, identified as Latasha Chaneyfield, was also inside the home.

During the search, detectives reportedly seized approximately 189 grams of suspected cocaine and/or crack cocaine, 286 glassine wax folds containing suspected heroin or fentanyl, 82 grams of suspected MDMA, 57 grams of suspected fentanyl, and approximately 29 grams of suspected oxycodone pills.

Investigators also reported finding drug paraphernalia and materials allegedly associated with drug distribution, including a digital money counter, vacuum sealer, digital scale, suspected cutting agents and packaging materials. More than $2,500 in cash was also seized, police said.

Duffy faces numerous charges, including possession with intent to distribute cocaine or crack cocaine, maintaining a controlled dangerous substance production facility, and possession with intent to distribute MDMA, heroin or fentanyl and oxycodone. He was also charged with possession of additional controlled substances, money laundering, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, certain persons not to have weapons and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to police.

Duffy was transported to the Ocean County Jail and was being held pending his first court appearance.

Chaneyfield was charged with conspiracy to possess cocaine and heroin or fentanyl with intent to distribute, as well as possession of heroin or fentanyl, cocaine, MDMA and drug paraphernalia. She was released on a criminal complaint summons pending a future court appearance.

The charges are allegations, and both defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
