A 56-year-old Toms River woman was killed and seven others were injured Saturday morning when a vehicle crashed into the outdoor dining area and building of Meg’s Grill in Lavallette.

The crash occurred around 11:12 a.m. at the restaurant, located at 1401 Grand Central Ave.

According to the Lavallette Police Department, the driver of a 2014 Buick Encore was attempting to park in front of the restaurant when the vehicle apparently accelerated instead of stopping.

The Buick then struck the restaurant’s outdoor dining area before crashing into the building. Seven patrons were injured in the crash and taken to area hospitals for treatment.
