State Police Seeking Public’s Assistance with Serious Hit-and-Run Motor Vehicle Crash Investigation
New Jersey State Police are asking the public for assistance in identifying the driver involved in a serious hit-and-run crash that occurred earlier today, September 20, at approximately 4:34 a.m.
A Saddle Brook Township police officer was conducting a traffic stop involving a gray Nissan Maxima on Interstate 80 eastbound near milepost 62.4, in the deceleration lane. While the officer was outside the vehicle, an unidentified vehicle traveling eastbound struck the left side of the Nissan and the officer before leaving the scene.
The officer suffered serious injuries as a result of the crash. The three people inside the Nissan were not injured.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information about what happened before, during, or after the incident is asked to contact the New Jersey State Police Troop “B” Totowa Station at 973-785-9412. Anonymous tips are welcome.
MOVE OVER. SLOW DOWN. When approaching emergency responders, law enforcement officers, tow truck operators, highway workers, or a disabled vehicle stopped along the roadway with flashing lights, New Jersey’s Move Over Law requires drivers to safely move over one lane when possible.
If moving over cannot be done safely, drivers should slow down below the posted speed limit and be prepared to stop.
