Developing Nor’easter to Threaten Jersey Shore With Coastal Flooding, 50 mph Gusts

A strengthening nor’easter is expected to impact the Jersey Shore, bringing wind gusts of up to 50 mph and coastal flooding that may last through the weekend, depending on the storm’s path.

Coastal flood warnings are in effect from Wednesday afternoon through early Saturday morning for Atlantic, Cape May, Ocean, and southeastern Burlington counties. Monmouth County is under a coastal flood advisory.

A wind advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. Thursday along the Jersey Shore. Northeast winds of 25 to 35 mph are expected, with gusts reaching as high as 50 mph.

The National Weather Service warned Wednesday morning that several rounds of tidal flooding could occur throughout the week. Strong winds and high surf may also cause significant beach erosion and damage or breaks in sand dunes along the Jersey Shore.

Thursday is expected to stay dry, but strong northeast winds will continue, along with coastal flooding during high-tide periods.

The Jersey Shore is expected to experience several days of strong winds and moderate coastal flooding as a nor’easter moves along the East Coast.

Flooding from high tides could reach its highest levels Friday as tides rise ahead of Saturday’s full moon.
