Bruce John Gress, age 42, known as BJ to his family & Bam to his friends, passed away suddenly on September 18, 2026. BJ was born on October 18, 1983 in Livingston, NJ, he grew up in West Orange and Toms River. BJ lived in Florida for some time as an adult and eventually returned to Toms River. At the time of his passing, BJ worked as a Mason for McClelland Masonry in West Long Branch.

BJ loved spending time with his girlfriend, Dawn Mastrolia, and their precious dog Ragnar. BJ enjoyed working out, he was an MMA and WWE enthusiast and even had a couple of professional MMA fights.

He is survived by his girlfriend, Dawn Mastrolia and his best friend (their dog) Ragnar of Toms River, NJ, his mother, Linda McDonald of West Orange, NJ, his father, Bruce Gress of Homosassa Fl, his sisters, Kelly McDonald, Diedre Gress, Ariel Gress & Elaine Bolen, his aunts, Louise McDonald, Mary Beth McDonald, Dawn Gress, Donna Marzullo, Karen Gress, Linda Breining and his uncles, J. Keith McDonald and Gary Gress. He is also survived by his cousins, great cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

He is predeceased by his grandparents, Catherine and Walter McDonald, and Robert & Mary Gress, as well as uncles and cousins.

A celebration of life (which would have also been BJ’s 43rd Birthday) will be held on Sunday, October 18th, 2026, from 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm at the West Orange Elks located at 424 Main Street, West Orange, NJ 07052. All who wish to attend are welcome.
