Toms River Launches “Adopt a Homebound Senior” Program for Thanksgiving

TOMS RIVER, NJ – The spirit of giving is taking center stage in Toms River as Mayor Daniel T. Rodrick and the Toms River Senior Center are encouraging residents to participate in the community’s annual “Adopt a Homebound Senior for Thanksgiving” program.

The initiative is designed to ensure that local homebound seniors can enjoy a warm, traditional Thanksgiving meal throughout the holiday weekend. Community members are invited to “adopt” a senior by donating a fully prepared holiday meal packed with Thanksgiving favorites.

According to the event flyer, each meal should include:

  • Turkey
  • Stuffing
  • Mashed potatoes with gravy
  • String beans
  • Cranberry sauce
  • Biscuits
  • Dessert
  • Apple cider

Organizers say the program provides not only food, but also comfort and holiday cheer to seniors who may be unable to prepare meals for themselves or leave their homes during the Thanksgiving season.

In addition to meal donations, the program is accepting gift cards from major retailers, including:

  • ShopRite
  • Walmart
  • Wawa
  • Aldi

The gift cards can help participating seniors purchase groceries and other essentials beyond the holiday season.

Residents interested in participating are encouraged to contact Maryann at 732-341-1000 ext. 8462 for additional information. The flyer also lists the Toms River Senior Center location at 652 Garfield Avenue, Toms River, NJ.

Important Deadline

The final day to adopt a homebound senior for the Thanksgiving program is November 16, making it important for interested residents, businesses, and community organizations to sign up as soon as possible.

Local officials hope the initiative will once again bring the community together to support some of Toms River’s most vulnerable residents and ensure that no senior goes without a Thanksgiving meal.
