El Toro, a roller coaster at Six Flags Great Adventure that was shut down by the state last June following a partial derailment, is expected to reopen to riders this spring, according to park officials.
"Get ready to grab the bull by the horns," the park wrote on
Facebook on Monday. "El Toro is set to reopen this spring following intensive testing, inspections, and state certification."
Inspections and certification by the state are expected to be completed in the following weeks.
According to a report submitted to the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs by Six Flags authorities, the ride was shut down on June 29 after a train came to a halt short of the brake run with the rear wheels of one car off the track.
According to the
Six Flags incident report, no one was hurt, but riders had to be evacuated because the train came to a stop a few yards before the brake run.
El Toro will reopen for the 2022 season at Six Flags Great America.
El Toro, which translates as "the bull," is one of the world's fastest and highest wooden runs. It has the appearance of a traditional wooden coaster, but it is built using cutting-edge engineering techniques to provide a smoother, faster, and more thrilling ride than traditional wooden coasters.
