Turning Point Coming Soon

The popular breakfast, lunch, and brunch restaurant Turning Point will take over the former Ruby Tuesday on Route 37.

According to Kirk Ruoff, founder and chief executive officer of Turning Point Restaurants, construction has commenced with an expected opening date of late this summer.

It will be the second Turning Point restaurant in Toms River. It debuted at the Ocean County Mall last summer as part of the mall's new lifestyle complex.

"It's doing quite well," Ruoff said Tuesday, "so we decided to do a second location." "Toms River is a big town with a lot of people. Toms River can support two Turning Points if it can support three regional high schools."

Ruby Tuesday closed its restaurant at the Orchards at Dover shopping mall on Route 37 near St. Catherine Boulevard in December 2020, after declaring bankruptcy. Turning Point's first standalone restaurant in New Jersey will be a 5,000-square-foot space.

Turning Point, which began in Little Silver in 1998 and now offers 21 locations in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware, including seven in Monmouth and Ocean counties, was founded by Ruoff.

Residential neighborhoods such as Berkeley and Manchester surround the new Turning Point in Toms River. "It'll be a unique restaurant," Ruoff said. "The community is already aware of our brand."

The structure will be completely refurbished on the interior and exterior. There will be an outside seating area, as well as a "community table," two fires, and a breakfast bar. "There aren't a lot of places like ours," Ruoff explained.
