Another Winter Storm Heading Our Way

For Much of the State, the Snow Forecast for Friday has been Upgraded to 2-4 inches

As New Jersey recovers from an icy Wednesday morning that resulted in hundreds of collisions across the state, forecasters are looking ahead to a winter storm anticipated to hit the state late Thursday and early Friday, dumping up to 4 inches of snow.

The National Weather Service stated Wednesday in its forecast discussion that a low pressure system forming in the southeast US will shift off the coasts of North Carolina and Virginia and then accelerate northeast.

Forecasters are now sure that the approaching winter storm will be mostly snow, with 2 to 4 inches expected across the state except for the Jersey Shore, where rain may mix in if the storm lasts longer than expected.

The National Weather Service predicts 3 to 4 inches along and southeast of the Interstate 95 corridor, with 2 to 3 inches in northern New Jersey. 1 to 2 inches of snow is more likely in the northwest region of the state.

The most of the snow is predicted to fall in a short period of time - from midnight to 6 a.m. Friday.

A winter weather advisory will likely be issued for the Interstate 95 corridor and northern parts of the Jersey Shore. The center of the system, on the other hand, will stay well off the coast, and forecasters have cut the projected snow total amounts from Tuesday's early projection.

Nearly all of New Jersey is expected to receive 3 to 6 inches of rain, according to AccuWeather.com.

As snow falls, temperatures will be in the mid-20s to low-30s.

Gusty winds of up to 35 mph are expected along the Jersey Shore, according to the National Weather Service.
