According to South Brunswick Police Department, a four-hour standoff was safely ended over the weekend, and a man from South Brunswick was taken into custody.

Police received a call about an assault victim at South Brunswick Square Mall on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. After speaking with the victim, officers discovered that the assault had occurred at a residence on Aspen Court in the neighboring Wynwood Estates.
According to Police Chief Raymond Hayducka, officers were informed that the suspect had threatened to hurt law enforcement or anybody else who visited his residence.

Naseir Zikria, the suspect, refused to come to the door and leave his house when police tried to reach him at the Aspen Court residence.

Zikria, 59, rejected efforts to end the standoff but occasionally glanced out the windows. According to Hayducka, he was the only person in the house.
According to the police, the man had barricaded himself and threatened to be removed in a box. For several hours, Middlesex County Prosecutors Office crisis negotiators tried to get in touch with him. However, Zikria resisted every effort to speak with the police or to leave his home.

Members of the Special Operations Response Team broke through the front door shortly after six o'clock in the evening and arrested Zikria.

He was accused of resisting arrest, assault, and terrorist threats. While awaiting his initial court appearance, Zikria was detained at the Middlesex County Correction Center.
Hayducka expressed gratitude to the Special Operations Response Team of the Middlesex County Prosecutors Office for managing the matter.

Although it took a few hours, the incident was safely resolved. The standoff was successfully ended by the South Brunswick officers' and SORT members' cooperation and training, according to Hayducka.
