Authorities Identify Ocean County Woman Who Fell to Her Death in Adirondacks Mountains
The hiker who died Thursday after falling down a mountain trail in the Adirondacks with her dog has been identified as a woman from Brick Township.
Dr. Michael Sikirica, a forensic pathologist who conducted the autopsy, stated that
Brianna L. Mohr, 21, died from hypothermia, according to
New York State Police. According to Jeff Wernick, a spokesman for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Mohr contacted 911 at 3:05 p.m. on Thursday, notifying authorities that she and her dog had fallen off the route and were unable to return.
In addition to conducting an air search from a New York State Police helicopter, environmental conservation department rangers also conducted a ground search using a snowmobile and a tracked utility task vehicle, Wernick said.
"The two Rangers in the chopper couldn't see Mohr from the air because of thick clouds," he claimed. At 9:51 p.m., Mohr's corpse was found after a ground search, he added. At the scene, she was declared deceased. According to Wernick, her dog was discovered alive and walked to safety.
