Bathroom Fire in Toms River Home Resolved Without Injuries

According to Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention at approximately 5pm, on March 23rd, the Silverton Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched to the scene of a residential structure fire.

Assistant Chief Cocco was the first to arrive and found that the fire, which originated in the bathroom, had been extinguished by the occupants.

The fire investigation is being conducted by Toms River Fire Prevention Investigator Kevin Britton. It was determined that the cause of the fire was the careless use and discarding of smoking materials, which ignited combustible materials on the windowsill. The occupants reported smelling smoke for several minutes before the lower-floor smoke detector alerted them to the fire.
Fortunately, the fire did not cause significant structural damage and the property was not deemed unsafe. No utilities were disconnected or involved in the incident.

This fire serves as a reminder of the dangers of improperly discarded smoking materials. The Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention urges all residents to exercise caution and properly extinguish smoking materials to prevent future incidents.
