Following their discovery by the Garden State Parkway entry in Waretown, two dogs are now undergoing life-saving care.
The two beagles are receiving medical attention at the
Popcorn Park Zoo's animal refuge in Forked River for a variety of ailments. Both the elder male Brian and the younger female Brianne have been given shelter names.
According to the zoo, Brian was discovered for the first time on July 6 by a motorist in the woodland area close to the Waretown Parkway entrance. When the police arrived, they also discovered Brianne in the woods.

The canines soon found their way to the refuge in Popcorn Park. Based on how the beagles behave outside, it is assumed that they are hunting canines.
The shelter posted on Facebook that despite their terrible conditions, both of these dogs "are wagging their tails non-stop." "They would have you pet them all day if you could because they are so immensely glad to have attention. How anyone could have permitted this to occur to these two adorable, devoted pets is beyond our comprehension."
Despite their cheerful demeanor, the shelter claimed that both beagles had been severely neglected.

Brian, the senior dog, was photographed and revealed to be mangy and underweight. He was also anemic, had dental disease, and was experiencing early kidney failure.
Although Brianne was feeling better, she was still in pain. She had a skin disease, cherry eye, and other indicators of mistreatment when she arrived at the shelter.
If you have any information on the person that owned these dogs and then dumped them, please contact

Both Brian and Brianne need a great deal of medical care. If you'd like to donate towards their care and the many others that come to Popcorn Park Zoo as victims of abuse and neglect, please do so here:
