On Sunday, June 19, 2022, a black bear was seen at the Ocean County Golf Course at Atlantis in Little Egg Harbor.
Police are asking anyone who sees the bear to call them at 609-296-3666.
"Do not approach if noticed," police advised in an email to the public.
There have been many sightings of black bears in Ocean and Monmouth counties in recent weeks.
Bear sightings are more prevalent in the spring when they emerge from their winter dens and in the fall as they prepare to return to their winter dens, according to the state Department of Environmental Protection. Furthermore, their mating season goes from May to August, peaking in June and July. As a result, human encounters are more likely to occur during this time period.
