Authorities say a motorboat exploded at an Old Bridge marina on Wednesday afternoon, sending one man into the water and wounding another.

According to authorities, both individuals were hauled to safety and are now being treated at a hospital.

On Wednesday, just before 3:30 p.m., Old Bridge Police were called to the boat explosion complaint at Raritan Marina, located at 1707 Rt. 35 in Laurence Harbor.

The boat was apparently receiving gasoline when it exploded, according to the authorities. A 57-year-old man from Old Bridge was thrown into the river by the explosion's force and was rescued by onlookers. There was another injured man on the boat.

According to authorities, the submerged man was evacuated to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick for emergency medical attention after suffering burns to his face and legs.

The explosion caused glass injuries to the other mariner, a 47-year-old South Amboy resident, on his arms and stomach. According to the police, he was brought to Bayshore Medical Center for care.

The marina is closed due to the investigation.
