Brick Man Charged With Fleeing Scene of Crash
According to police, a Brick man was accused of fleeing the scene of a single-vehicle collision on Brick Boulevard that injured his own passenger.
In relation to an accident on Brick Boulevard and Schoener Drive (near Beaverson Boulevard), the suspect driver, 54-year-old Brick Township resident Nicholas Lotito, was charged with fleeing the scene of a motor vehicle collision that caused serious bodily injury. About 8 p.m. on Wednesday was when the crash happened.
A 1969 Chevrolet Camaro collided with a utility pole, and witnesses told police that the driver had fled the scene on foot. The police report states that officers were dispatched to the location of the collision. Lotito, the driver, and two passengers were on Brick Boulevard when Lotito lost control of the Camaro and crashed, according to the ongoing inquiry. Then the three of them walked out.
Investigating officers later discovered that one of the passengers in the vehicle had been transported to Ocean University Medical Center in Brick Township by a friend, where he received treatment for injuries incurred during the crash and was later released.
The other passenger in the vehicle did not sustain any injuries. Lotito was found by responding officers while he was trying to walk back to his home. He was apprehended without any issues and taken to
Ocean University Medical Center for treatment of his own injuries resulting from the crash.
The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit-Vehicular Homicide Squad and Ocean County Sheriff’s Department assisted in the investigation.
