According to the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, on November 17, 2025, Rebecca Sayegh, 32, of Toms River, pled guilty to Burglary, Criminal Mischief, and Simple Assault, all in connection with a series of events that occurred in Berkeley Township on April 25, 2025.
At the time of her sentencing on January 16, 2026, the State will seek a term of 180 days in the Ocean County Jail as a condition of probation, no contact with the victims, and restitution. Additionally, Sayegh was required to forfeit her position as a Toms River Township Police Officer effective November 17, 2025, and has forfeited all future public employment in the State of New Jersey.
On April 25, 2025, at approximately 11:20 p.m., Officers from the
Berkeley Township Police Department responded to a residence on Evernhan Avenue for a report of a domestic disturbance.
Responding Officers discovered
Sayegh - an off-duty Toms River Township Police Officer - had smashed the front glass door and entered the residence.
It was determined that
Sayegh also damaged the hood of a vehicle belonging to one of the victims which was parked in the driveway.
Sayegh was located at the scene and was taken into custody after having resisted efforts to peacefully place her under arrest. She was released from the
Ocean County Jail as a consequence of New Jersey Bail Reform.
