Burglary Ring in Monmouth County: Suspect Charged
Attorney General Matt Platkin of New Jersey said Wednesday that a man from Newark was a member of a home invasion ring that preyed on residents of Wall, Sea Girt, Lakewood, Freehold, and other areas during the months of November, December, and January.
On January 16, State Police saw a 2024 BMW X7, reported stolen from the Freehold borough, driving through Tinton Falls and arrested Samir White, 19, of Newark. The car contained four men.
The BMW was pursued by State Police to Newark, where White and the other passengers jumped out and fled. White was apprehended after being found hiding in a backyard. No sign of the other three men.
According to the Attorney General's office, the stolen BMW was discovered in Freehold two weeks ago as a result of the NJ State Police Motor Vehicle Crimes North Unit's long-term surveillance of the ring.
Between November 18 and January 16, the group broke into and stole automobiles in Sea Girt, Wall Township, Lakewood, and other locations.
According to the police, ring members traveled to Monmouth and Ocean counties in stolen cars and used crowbars to break into houses. The men entered, took valuables and key fobs, and then took off in the homeowners' vehicles.
First-degree home invasion burglary, four counts of second-degree residential burglary, second-degree motor vehicle theft, second-degree receiving a stolen vehicle, second-degree conspiracy to receive a stolen vehicle, and fourth-degree resisting arrest by flight are among the charges against White.
