Farewell to David Bowie:
Cape May Zoo's
Adored Red Panda
The Cape May County Zoo is mourning the death of one of its most treasured animals.
The Zoo announced the Red Panda named David Bowie died on Thursday.
We are deeply saddened to announce the loss of our beloved Red Panda, David Bowie.
The findings of his necropsy (the veterinary equivalent of an autopsy) indicated mesenteric torsion.
This is a condition that occurs when the intestines twist.
Most cases are nearly 100% fatal, and animals pass away very quickly.
David Bowie’s keepers shared that he LOVED his craisins, was a whiz at his puzzle feeders (though he often liked to cheat by flipping them!), enjoyed climbing upside down on the exhibit fencing, and was so incredibly sweet and patient during training sessions.
He also loved attention and spending time with his keepers.
He will be deeply missed by our entire zoo family.
