Car Crashes on Popular Jersey Shore Boardwalk

According to Belmar Police Department, a Belmar driver was taken into custody on charges of operating a vehicle while drunk on Thursday morning after his vehicle crashed into another vehicle and traveled a full block along the boardwalk.

Jason Nagy, 44, of Avon was taken into custody by Belmar police on Thursday morning on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and other offenses. According to the police, Nagy drove his vehicle in the wrong direction, collided with another vehicle, and then proceeded to drive along the boardwalk.

At 9:16 a.m. on July 11, Belmar police were called to a collision near Second Avenue and Ocean Avenue. They were told that a car was moving north in the southbound lane when it collided with another vehicle and then sped toward the beachfront.

According to a press release from the authorities, Nagy's automobile went through a hand railing on the boardwalk at Third Avenue and proceeded to travel on the boardwalk for approximately one block before coming to a stop.

Nagy was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center together with the driver of the other car. Police said there were no other injuries recorded.
