Ocean County Hosts Clear the Shelters: Adopt a Pet Today

The Ocean County Animal Facilities are proud to participate in the Clear the Shelters National Pet Adoption Event once again, taking place from August 1 through September 7, 2025. As the largest adoption initiative of the year for both county-operated shelters located in Jackson and Manahawkin, this popular event draws residents and visitors alike in search of their new four-legged companion.

“We’re always thrilled to see so many people from across the county and beyond come together to support our mission of giving homeless pets a second chance,” said Jennifier Bacchione, Liaison to the Ocean County Board of Health. “Unfortunately, too many dogs and cats still find themselves in shelters through no fault of their own.

“Our shelters are always filled with wonderful animals just waiting for a forever home,” said Daniel Regenye, Ocean County Health Department Public Health Coordinator. “When you adopt from a shelter, you’re not only giving a dog or cat a loving home, you’re also helping to make space for other animals in need. Events like this are a powerful reminder that you don’t need to shop for a pet when there are so many amazing animals waiting at your local shelter.”

Special Adoption Weekend: September 6–7, 2025
To make the event even more impactful, all adoption fees will be reduced by 50% during the weekend of September 6-7. Every cat and dog at the shelters has received the following:
* Spayed or neutered
* Microchipped
* Vaccinated (age-appropriate)
* Fully vetted by our veterinarian

Additionally, each adopted pet will go home with a complimentary goody bag filled with nutritious treats and fun toys, available throughout the entire event, from August 1 through September 7.

Responsible Adoption Encouraged
The Ocean County Health Department urges potential adopters to make thoughtful and informed decisions.

“We encourage only serious adopters to visit our facilities during this special event,” added Regenye. “Adopting a pet is a lifelong commitment. Make sure the timing is right and take the time to find the perfect dog or cat that fits your lifestyle.”
