Coast Guard Rescues Four from NJ Inlet
According to the U.S. Coast Guard, this past weekend saw two different incidences where four persons were saved from being washed away into Absecon Inlet.
Over the course of two and a half hours on September 23, the Coast Guard Atlantic City Station responded to the two search and rescue cases.
On September 24th, 2024, the U.S. Coast Guard conducted two separate rescues off the coast of Brigantine, New Jersey, successfully saving four individuals.
In the first incident, which occurred at approximately 11:47 a.m., two girls, aged
11 and 14, were pulled out into the Absecon Inlet while on surfboards.
Brigantine police alerted the Coast Guard, which promptly deployed a 29-foot response boat, rescuing the girls within eight minutes.
Most beaches in New Jersey have been unguarded since the day after Labor Day, adding to the risks for beachgoers.
Just over two hours later, two men found themselves in distress while floating on inner tubes in the same inlet. After being notified by local police, the Coast Guard arrived within seven minutes and safely brought the men aboard.
According to the
Coast Guard Press Release the weather on scene was winds of 12 mph and seas up to 4 feet.
