Coast Guard Rescues Woman from Cruise Ship Near Jersey Shore

A woman suffering a medical emergency was airlifted from a cruise ship by the U.S. Coast Guard Thursday night, authorities said.

The Carnival Cruise Lines vessel Venezia was 52 miles east of Toms River when the emergency with the 56-year-old woman was reported to the Coast Guard about 7:50 p.m., authorities said.

Following consultation with the duty flight surgeon of Coast Guard Sector New York, a medical evacuation to a higher level of care was suggested. At around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City's MH-65 Dolphin crew launched and reached the ship.

The patient was lifted by the aircrew and sent to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center located in New Jersey.

On Friday, the woman's condition was unknown.
