Coney Waffle Ice Cream & Sweet Shop Coming to Toms River

COMING SOON

Toms River will soon welcome Coney Waffle. Coney Waffle specializes in over the top desserts, coney waffles, cups, cones, milkshakes, brownie waffles, as well as original ice cream cakes, fudge, candy and other complimentary products. This location will also be a drive-through.

According to the Asbury Park Press, the former Boston Market restaurant on Route 37 near Hooper Avenue will host a new Coney Waffle location. According to owner Joe D'Esposito, the company's seventh location is anticipated to open in the spring of 2024.

It will be the first Ocean County location.  Coney Waffle has locations in Belmar Plaza, Broad Street in Red Bank, Pier Village in Long Branch, and Ocean Avenue in Asbury Park and Belmar, where it has a seasonal location. There's also a location in Brooklyn, New York's Coney Island.

On Coney Island, Angelina D'Esposito was earning a living by selling ice cream. But D'Esposito did more than merely scoop her ice cream onto a cone; instead, she tucked it into freshly made waffles, giving patrons a portable snack they could have as they strolled.

Coney Waffle was created many years after her grandson Joe D'Esposito acquired one of her waffle makers. In 2016, he opened his first store in Belmar. He then opened stores in Red Bank, Long Branch, and Asbury Park.

Apart from the waffle and ice cream sandwich his grandmother used to prepare, D'Esposito also creates enormous shakes known as sideshow shakes and vibrantly colored waffle cones dubbed galaxy cones.

The cakes at Coney Waffle are extravagant as well: Pull-apart ice cream cake is ideal for sharing, and little cookies, candies, ice cream sandwiches, and pieces of cake are heaped on top and around the sides.

According to D'Esposito, "ice cream has been around forever." "Many folks just carry out the same routine. We innovate all the time. We're always looking to innovate and create something fresh."

According to D'Esposito, he has been considering creating a drive-through model for Coney Waffle. The drive-up window at the former Boston Market was convenient for the business, especially given its location.

"Getting ice cream doesn't require getting out of your car," D'Esposito remarked. "We are going to scoop over 50 flavors of ice cream that you can get, in a drive through, which is going to be sweet."
