Dangerous Heat and Storms Expected in New Jersey

According to the National Weather Service, "dangerously hot and humid day today" that will bring strong thunderstorms and a lot of rain to the whole Garden State.

A warning of excessive heat is in effect for Somerset, Middlesex, western Monmouth, Mercer, Gloucester, Camden, and northwest Burlington counties through 8 p.m. on Friday. A heat advisory is in effect for Sussex, Warren, Morris, Hunterdon, Ocean, southeast Burlington, Atlantic, and Cape May counties through 8 p.m. on Friday. All places will experience intense heat waves, with the exception of coastal regions.

Not everyone will see rain, however just be weather aware today and again Saturday.

"Unfortunately, the timing of clouds and storms today do not look to arrive in time to offer any relief during the hottest part of the day," warned the National Weather Service.

This begins a very rainy weekend in New Jersey. Forecasters warn that on Friday afternoon, there will be sporadic to many showers and thunderstorms. The National Weather Service reports that there could be destructive wind gusts and localized flash flooding throughout the state.

Additionally, this weekend is not going to be good for outdoor activities. Forecasters at AccuWeather say "sudden storms could quickly churn up area bays, coastal waters and large inland lakes with the threat of lightning strikes for those caught outdoors."

Once more, Saturday is going to be hot and windy. Heavy rain is most likely to fall on Saturday afternoon and evening, however it might continue into Sunday night.
