Drivers may have to deal with icy roads this weekend as the most recent winter storm targets New Jersey, so weather forecasters are advising them to slow down and exercise extra caution. With the clash between colder and warmer air occurring at different points during the storm,
National Weather Service forecasters said this is a very difficult storm to predict.
Which regions see very little snow with significant ice from sleet and freezing rain, and which regions see a lot of snow with very little ice, will depend on the temperature changes.
In addition to sleet and freezing rain, forecasters predict that the storm will bring icy conditions and heavy snow in some places.
Up to 6 inches of snow is predicted in some areas and 3 to 5 inches north of Interstate 78.
According to the weather service, "any wintry precipitation will change to plain rain from south to north into the Philadelphia metro overnight Saturday night into early Sunday morning" as warmer air moves in from the south into Saturday night.
In most of New Jersey, the precipitation should stop by daybreak on Sunday, but in the northeastern part of the state, it may continue until late Sunday morning.
