Dead Whale Washes Up on the Beach in Barnegat Light

On Friday February 20th at 1:30pm the Marine Mammal Stranding Center responded to reports of a large deceased whale in the surf in Barnegat Light, NJ.

The whale was identified as a male Fin whale measuring approximately 50 feet in length. MMSC’s Stranding Coordinator was on scene until sunset working with local assets for a recovery and disposal plan.

MMSC is currently assembling a necropsy team, coordinating the necropsy to be completed by Saturday evening, ahead of Sunday’s coastal storm.
