Driver Flees After Causing Power Outages in Toms River Crash

According to Toms River Police, the driver of a car that struck a utility pole Monday morning, cutting off power to a portion of Toms River, is being sought by Toms River police.

The collision occurred at 5:49 a.m. on Cedar Grove Road between Mehar Court and Brookside Drive.

According to authorities, the 2010 Mercury Mariner was discovered on its side close to the damaged utility pole obstructing the road, with the driver nowhere to be seen.

Multiple leads were being investigated to identify the motorist at the time of the collision, even though the driver had fled the scene before police arrived.

Residents had no power in the neighborhood for a few hours, but by 9:30 a.m., Jersey Central Power & Light had restored electricity.
