Tragic Incident: Driver Strikes Child and Grandparent Near School Bus

After reportedly striking a toddler and a grandmother who were crossing in front of a school bus, the driver is being charged.

It took place in Franklin Township's 1800 block of Grant Avenue at approximately 4:28 p.m. on Wednesday.

According to police, the collision happened as a Franklin Township School District bus was stopped on Grant Avenue with its stop sign engaged and its red flashing lights on.

According to Chief Matthew DeCesari, a 6-year-old girl and her 50-year-old grandmother were waiting for her when she got off the bus, but they returned to retrieve something.

"The bus's stop sign was out, and all of its lights were blinking now. The bus driver had seen a car approaching her and didn't seem to be stopping. "She started honking her horn at the car, and as the grandmother and child entered the roadway they were struck by the vehicle."

After leaving work, Brittany Zaugg hurried to the hospital, where her daughter was admitted due to minor injuries.

Laura Mayo Pulgarin of Philadelphia, the car's driver, reportedly remained at the scene and was charged with assault by auto and other traffic violations. According to police, she was distracted by maps on her phone while delivering products for a delivery service in her own car.

"There's no reason you missed a big yellow school bus with flashing lights and the bus driver honking repeatedly and you still didn't stop," Zaugg said.

On Friday, Pulgarin could not be reached for comment by Action News. If found guilty, she could be sent to jail, according to the police.
