Drone Invasion: 50 Drones Came in from the Ocean and Spotted at Island Beach State Park
According to Congressman Chris Smith, law enforcement monitored 50 drones coming ashore from the water at Island State Park on Sunday night, while more than a dozen drones followed a 47-foot Coast Guard boat, according to Rep. Chris Smith.
An FBI associate director said that the organization is unsure of the identity of the unidentified drone operators operating over New Jersey.
Authorities have confirmed that local military stations are not the source of the drones.
Tuesday's congressional hearing saw federal officials acknowledge that, despite repeated promises from
Gov. Murphy and other public officials, they are unable to state with certainty if the unidentified drones are a threat, adding to the mystery surrounding them.
During the hearing and in an interview with Fox News, Representative Christopher Smith stated that he and Ocean County Sheriff Michael Mastronardy went drone hunting on Monday in Island Beach State Park.
"They went to that beach because a law enforcement officer had counted fifty drones coming in from the ocean onto land the night before," he added.
He added that a Coast Guard official informed him that 12 to 30 drones were following one of their 47-foot ships in the seas.
Smith stated, "I believe this to be a very serious threat."
He continued by saying that he was informed that
Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst personnel lacked the authorization to shoot down the drones when he questioned them about why they couldn't. In order to determine the drones' identify and capabilities, Smith pleaded with the hearing's officials to authorize the military to shoot them down.
Senator Jon Bramnick of the state urged Murphy to "issue a limited state of emergency banning all drones until the public receives an explanation regarding these multiple sightings" in reaction to the drones.
Since mid-to-late November, the number of drones in New Jersey has been remarkable.
The counties of Bergen, Esssex, Hunterdon, Morris, Passaic, Sussex, Somerset, and Warren have also reported seeing the unidentifiable drones. As the sun sets, several witnesses claim to have seen "car-sized" objects that seem to rise in the sky. They have been circling vital infrastructure, military installations, and reservoirs.
