As they passed the motel on Broadway, three off-duty Point Pleasant Beach officers noticed smoke and fire. They started to evacuate the motel rooms, removing the residents and transferring them to safety, according to police on Sunday afternoon.
While the rest of the motel was evacuated, the on-duty police made an effort to put out the fire, but they were unable to do much, according to the police.
