Early Morning Earthquake Shakes New Jersey

Earthquake Rattles Several Areas in New Jersey

Early Morning Earthquake Shakes New Jersey

The most recent earthquake to jolt Somerset County after the 4.8 earthquake on April 5 struck at 2.9 magnitude early on Friday morning.

According to the USGS, the earthquake occurred at 3:50 a.m., approximately 6 kilometers to the west-southwest of Gladstone.

This Friday's earthquake is one of several that have struck the Garden State since April. Many of the small earthquakes that have been reported by the USGS in Somerset, Hunterdon, and Morris counties have their origins close to Califon, Gladstone, and Chester. Around 6 p.m. on April 5, the strongest aftershock, with a magnitude of 3.8, happened close to Gladstone.

Over a month has passed since the tri-state area was rocked by an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.8. The original earthquake, which was centered roughly 45 miles west of New York City and 50 miles north of Philadelphia, may have been felt by over 42 million people, according to the USGS.

Did you feel the aftershock on Friday morning? Send it to the USGS so they can track it.
